BRACES FOR KIDS

Braces for Kids

In addition to seeing their dentist, all children need to be screened by an orthodontist by age 7 to assess their jaw and tooth development. We have started a Growth and Guidance program, known as the Kids’ Club. This program offers a complimentary screening as well as free growth and development checks to monitor your child’s growth. Schedule your screening today!

Early Prevention Screening:

By age 7, growth problems begin to reveal themselves and these problems are best addressed while a child is still growing. Dr. Brad Hudson will assess your child’s growth and development and recommend the ideal time for treatment, if necessary.
Signs that your child may need early treatment:

  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • Difficulty chewing and/or biting
  • Biting the cheek or into the roof of the mouth
  • Mouth breathing
  • Thumb or finger sucking
  • Speech impediments
  • Protruding teeth
  • Crossbite
  • Crowded front teeth (upper or lower)
  • Jaws that are too far forward or back
  • Grinding or clenching

Two-phase Treatment:

Phase I – Correction of early growth and development problems can prevent the need for extraction and surgery in the future. Most children don’t need Phase I, but for the ones that do it’s much more affordable and has a significantly shorter treatment time than full braces.
Resting Period – After early growth problems are corrected, children enter a resting phase, where proper eruption of remaining teeth will be monitored by Dr. Hudson.
Phase II – After permanent teeth have erupted, the Orthodontist can assess the need for a Phase II. Often times, this second phase, or full braces, is necessary to establish the correct position of the teeth so they will function together properly.
