What Is Two-Phase Treatment?

Two-phase treatment is a two-step approach to orthodontic care for children: Phase I treats early jaw and growth problems, and Phase II uses full braces once permanent teeth erupt. Most children only need Phase II, but for those who need both, starting early can prevent extraction or surgery later.

• Phase I: corrects early growth problems, which can prevent extraction or surgery later. Most children don’t need it, but for those who do, it’s shorter and more affordable than full braces.
• Resting Period: after Phase I, Dr. Hudson monitors the eruption of remaining teeth.
• Phase II: once permanent teeth erupt, we assess the need for full braces to align the teeth, so they function properly together.
